"I was hoping to end with a great victory," the 33-year-old told the club’s website. "The disappointment of Portugal can’t erase my memories though. "I’ve had 11 wonderful Azzurri years, great and intense moments, an experience that I will never forget." Toldo, a former Under-21 international, made his debut for the full side back in 1995 when he replaced the dismissed Luca Bucci in Croatia. "I will now dedicate myself to just Inter," he continued. "It was a decision that I made before Euro 2004 but I didn’t want to reveal it until now. "I am 33 and I think it is only right that I step aside and allow room for the next generation." The likes of Roma's Ivan Pelizzoli and Christian Abbiati of Milan will now probably get their chance even if Toldo has issued them a warning. "I leave with one certainty: Italy are in safe hands because Gigi Buffon again showed his quality during the Championships," he noted. "I will now go on holiday, spend some time with my family and rest. Then I will think only of Inter."
