"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" creator/ executive producer Anthony Zuiker was combing a Las Vegas motel room for bodily fluids, and that's when he found her. A suspect was hiding under the bed, and she tried to scratch his eyes out. Zuiker was out on the call with a real Las Vegas CSI unit, doing research for his show, which then was about to start its first season. A woman allegedly had taken another woman to a motel, where three men allegedly took advantage of her and assaulted her. "They took the victim into protective custody, but they couldn't find the girl (who allegedly had taken her to the motel)," Zuiker said. "So this guy gives me a comb and says, 'Anthony, hit your knees and comb the carpet for bodily fluids.' " 'Excuse me?' So as I tiptoe around the tulips, I was combing, combing, combing," Zuiker continued. "I lifted the bed -- I swear to God, I lifted the bed skirt. Two eyes -- she was hiding underneath the bed, scratched my face, jumped like a cat. " 'I'm just the writer, man. I'm just the writer,' " Zuiker said he told her. "And the moral of the story is that was the birth of 'CSI,' which has been the birth of surprises," Zuiker said last week during a Television Critics Association conference at the Renaissance Hotel. Surprises indeed. Few in Hollywood, from studios and networks to TV critics, had suspected "CSI," a drama basically about science with more emphasis on evidence than characters, would become the country's highest-rated series. It led to the successful spinoff "CSI: Miami." CBS wouldn't mind continuing the franchise with another "CSI." The payoff is seen clearly in NBC's "Law & Order" franchise, in which three series are doing well in the ratings. But at a press party that night at Hollywood's crowded Lucky Strikes, a restaurant/ chic bowling alley, Zuiker said he's not eager for another spinoff. "A third 'CSI' might happen, but I'm not going to hurt the first two shows by focusing on a third," the 34-year-old Blue Island, Ill., native said. Earlier that day, he had said he would like to do "CSI: Honolulu" two or three years from now because he would like to live in Hawaii. As he answered questions at Lucky Strikes, Zuiker was his usual boisterous, honest self. He's a tall whirlwind of energy who seems to take charge of his environment. As pins fell on the bowling lanes, Zuiker's voice could be heard above the loud din of scattered conversations. But Zuiker bent down to my ear to make sure none of his words were lost in the noise. Zuiker said he knew viewers would be fascinated by forensic medicine because it fascinates him. "Other creators and writers don't have the guts to think that if something is interesting to them, it'll be interesting to Americans." And to the world. Zuiker noted "CSI," now in its fourth season, airs in most countries around the globe. What's more, it's Zuiker's first TV show. Before "CSI," he co-wrote "The Runner" with Dustin Abraham. The 1999 movie was about a young man addicted to gambling who gets into serious trouble. The other "CSI" and "CSI: Miami" executive producers at the press conference talked about Zuiker's baptism into television. "Some people learn (the business) as staff writers and story editors. Anthony kind of learned it from the top down," Jonathan Littman said. "But you have to start with the talent. If the talent is not there, it will never be there." The other executive producers include Jerry Bruckheimer, who reads all the scripts and reviews all the dailies despite his heavy schedule directing and producing movies. Zuiker said that this season, he plans to have Gil Grissom (William Petersen), who's pretty much a loner, get re-engaged with the world. It's a natural progression after the investigator's ear operation last season; the season's first episode will resolve the issue of Grissom's hearing loss, Zuiker said. But Carol Mendelsohn, executive producer and showrunner on "CSI," added that the producers won't say whether Grissom gets his hearing back. Mendelsohn said the producers felt they could show more of Grissom's personality through the hearing loss story. The idea for it began with technical consultant Elizabeth Devine's comments that CSI investigators use all five senses. "And when we did 'Sound of Silence' first season, which was about a deaf young man who was hit by a car, it occurred to us that that was something we could play with Grissom. It would explain why Grissom is so able to focus in his work, where he says, 'People lie; evidence doesn't.' " Zuiker said the series this season might hint at romance for Grissom. "We like to play subtexts between Grissom and Sara (Jorja Fox). That was certainly an interesting dynamic last year when the entire lab blew up and she hurt her wrist and he called her 'honey,' and he's made some interesting comments." "CSI" will feature Las Vegas locations heavily in the season's first two episodes to distinguish the series from "CSI: Miami," then it will return to its normal emphasis on depicting crimes that could happen anywhere, Zuiker said during the interview at Lucky Strikes. One episode will focus heavily on the Las Vegas Strip, Zuiker said. "We'll have a scavenger hunt; we get parts of evidence from different casinos on the Strip." Far from Zuiker and the reporters coming to talk with him, "CSI" star -- and Emmy nominee -- Marg Helgenberger was watching her young son Hugh and his friend bowl; her husband and the boy's father, "Guardian" star Alan Rosenberg, was talking to them. Just a couple reporters were hanging around in this corner far from the crowd, but a group of reporters would be waiting to talk with her by the time I finished interviewing her. Even after all her nominations over the years and her Emmy win for "China Beach," Helgenberger said she was still surprised by the nomination. She added she was happy that "CSI" was nominated for best drama. She explained the popularity of "CSI." "There's a lot of reasons," she said. "People find forensic science fascinating. They love the show; it's entertaining as well as educational. You can learn something." As pins behind her fell -- her son and his friend were doing well this night at bowling -- Helgenberger said she has gone to their school to talk about the show and noted that the series has inspired many young people to go into forensics. "My character (Catherine Willows) is strong, very direct, very sexy, very smart," Helgenberger said. "Ultimately, I think she's a real committed person. She loves her job. "You know, I don't know what (the producers and writers) have planned," she said about the new season. "I think the characters are mysteries. We don't know too much about them. "I like to see some shades of her character, not necessarily heroic, some flaws," she said. Helgenberger said she expects more character development in the aftermath of last season's 90-minute episode, in which her ex-husband was killed, leaving Catherine's daughter without a father. "CSI" began filming this month at its usual home, its studios in Santa Clarita, and "CSI: Miami" is filmed at studios in El Segundo. But "CSI" will go to Las Vegas in August to film scenes for several episodes, and "CSI: Miami" will go to Miami to do the same. At the earlier press conference at the hotel, Littman said character development is shown gradually. "Anthony has a great expression that he likes to use, which is we dole out our personal stuff in dropperfuls." Fans of "CSI" don't like to miss a drop. -- 是誰之前說想去LV玩的啊? 八月去正好哩...;P -- Grissom: 17 % ? Sara: Yeah. New paper out of Australia, you haven't seen it? 17% chance of DNA recovery from guns, 67 % chance from a cigarette, 32% from the brim of a hat....Would you...like a copy? Grissom: I don't need one. I have you. C.S.I. 3x09 Blood Lust ※ 編輯: Topanga 來自: 140.122.110.147 (07/30 16:06)
