90. 應無所住而生其心 One’s Mind Should Dwell Nowhere 宣公上人一九九四年二月二十七日開示於聖荷西聞思修居士林 A Dharma Talk by Venerable Master Hua on February 27, 1994 at the Bodhi Way As sociation in San Jose, California VBSKaiShi-#90-1994-0227-No.294: 「諸惡不作，眾善奉行」，這是一個清淨、 一個不清淨。說：「哪有這麼樣講的呢？」 你細玩其味，就是這兩種。世界上的諸惡也就是因為有淫欲，才發生一切惡。你若能行眾 善，就是你自己一切都清淨了，沒有淫亂的行為， 這就是眾善奉行，就是這麼簡單，沒 有太多七扯八拉、尋章摘句那些的東西。你要聽那些東西，就上戲臺去聽去。講法是講要 緊的，你若懂得了，你終身用之，猶不能盡矣！我說這話，你若不相信，我再說一個例子 。 “Do no evil and practice all good.” It refers to being pure or impure. One m ay say: “How can you explain it that way?” If you think carefully, these two qualities are the only explanations. All evils in this world originate from l ust. If you can practice all good, that shows you are pure, free from any lust ful behavior. This is the same as doing all good. It is that simple. There is no need to be wordy, or quote this and that. If you want to hear those, you ca n go to a theater. A Dharma lecture should only address the most important poi nt. If you understand it, then it will benefit you for all your life and beyon d! If you don’t believe what I said, let me give you an example. 孟子說：我四十歲才不動心 ，告子先我不動心。不動什麼心？就是不動淫欲心。 他能降 伏其心了，這就叫不動心。《金剛經》上說：「應無所住而生其心」，也就是降伏其心， 什麼心？ 這是要緊的，就是淫欲心。淫欲心不容易降伏，你若真能把它降伏了，那就是 聲聞、緣覺。你為什麼不是聲聞、緣覺？不是聖人？就因為你不能降伏淫欲心。你能降伏 淫欲心了，這就是眾善奉行。孟子到四十歲能降伏其心， 所以他成為聖人。 Mencius said: “Only until I reached forty, I became unmoved. Gao Zi is better than me, he achieved this state earlier than I did.” Unmoved by what? Unmove d by lustful thoughts. He was able to subdue his mind; that is called becoming unmoved. Vajra Sutra says: “One’s mind should abide nowhere.” It is the sa me as to subdue one’s mind. What kind of mind? This is a very important quest ion. It is the mind of lust. It is not easy to subdue the mind of lust. If you can truly subdue it, then you are a Sravaka or a Pratyekabuddha. Why are you not a Sravaka or a Pratyekabuddha, or a sage? It is because you cannot subdue your mind of lust. If you can, then it is the same as doing all good. Mencius was able to subdue his mind when he reached forty, therefore he became a sage.
