88. 大悲觀世音菩薩 (c) Guanshiyin, Bodhisattva of Great Compassion 宣化上人撰述 一九八六年十月三日 A Dharma Talk Given by the Venerable Master on October 3, 1986 「菩薩在初地時」：初地就是十地之中的第一地（歡喜地）。那個時候，他「遇千光王靜 住如來」。千光王靜住佛對他很慈悲，就「傳授大悲神咒」給他。「紫金光手摩頂」：佛 又用紫磨金光的手摩他頂。 佛給他一摩頂，他即刻「頓超八地」：到八地（不動地）這個地位了。「踊躍歡喜」：於 是乎他就很高興啊！也很歡喜啦！「而發誓言」：在千光王靜住佛的面前就發願了， 說：「若我未來能利益眾生」的話，「令我即生千手千眼」：令我即刻就能生出千手千眼 。「誓畢，大地六變震動」：六種震動就是震、吼、擊、動、涌、起。 When the Bodhisattva was on the First Ground (the Ground of Happiness), the fi rst of the Ten Grounds, he met Tathagata King of a Thousand Lights Abiding in Stillness, who was very kind and transmitted the Great Compassion Spiritual Ma ntra to him. Then, that Buddha used his purple-golden hand to rub the Bodhisat tva’s crown, and the Bodhisattva instantaneously reached the Eighth Ground, t he Ground of Unmoving. Joyful and delighted, he made the following vow. He was very happy, and he vowed before Buddha King of a Thousand Lights Abiding in S tillness, "If I can benefit living beings in the future, then let me immediate ly grow a thousand hands and a thousand eyes." After the vow was made, the ear th shook in six ways. The six ways are shaking, roaring, striking, moving, sur ging, and rising. 「十方諸佛放光照觸其身，千手千眼俱生」：這個時候佛放光照他，使他就現生生出了千 手千眼。「乃對佛言」：對佛說了，「若眾生誦持大悲神咒者」：有人能念大悲神咒，「 於現在生中」：在他這一生中，「一切所求若不果遂者」： 他所求的什麼願，如果不滿他的願的話，「不得名為大悲心陀羅尼也」：就不能叫『大悲 心陀羅尼』，就不能叫做大悲心的總持神咒。他還發這個願說，若有人誦持大悲神咒，不 得成佛，他也不取正覺，觀音菩薩也不成佛。 When the Buddhas of the ten directions shone their light on him, he grew a tho usand hands and a thousand eyes. At that time, the Buddhas shone their light o n him, upon which he immediately grew a thousand hands and a thousand eyes. He then said to the Buddha, “If any living being who recites and holds the Spir itual Mantra of Great Compassion should not obtain whatever they seek in their present life, then it cannot be called the dharani of the heart of great comp assion.” If someone recites the Spiritual Mantra of Great Compassion and does not have everything they wish be fulfilled, then this mantra cannot be called the dharani of the heart of great compassion. He also vowed that if anyone wh o recites and holds the Spiritual Mantra of Great Compassion does not become a Buddha, then Guan Yin Bodhisattva himself will not realize Right Enlightenmen t either.
