However, Bucks president Peter Feigen believes that the NBA will take control and move the team out of state if the Wisconsin legislature doesn't approve $250 million in public financing to help build a new arena in downtown Milwaukee. From the Milwaukee Business Journal: Milwaukee Bucks president Peter Feigin told Wisconsin lawmakers Monday that time was of the essence in approving $250 million in public funding for the proposed arena in downtown Milwaukee or the NBA will move the team to another city. At an informational hearing held by the state Legislature's Joint Finance Committee, Feigin said the Bucks owners' purchase agreement for the team includes a provision that construction of a new arena start in 2015. If that does not occur, he said the NBA will buy back the team for a $25 million profit and move them to "Las Vegas or Seattle." Feigin said the team needed to start construction by October or November to avoid the NBA starting a process of seeking buyers for the team. The team's lease at the BMO Harris Bradley Center expires in 2017, he said. This is obviously a dramatic statement by Feigin to convince Wisconsin lawmakers to approve funding but his bold talk could have the desired effect. According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, State Sen. Alberta Darling thinks a new arena in Downtown Milwaukee is the "opportunity of a lifetime" for the city and the state. "This is a good deal for (Milwaukee) County, city (of Milwaukee) and the state," Darling said in wrapping up the meeting. "I hope the legislators that live in rural areas heard that today and will rise to the occasion. If we don’t get this done, we will not get another chance with an NBA team." The Bucks have been in Milwaukee since 1968 and have played in the BMO Harris Bradley Center since 1988. The need for a new arena is evident but unfortunately it is just not up to the Bucks. Owners Wes Edens, Marc Lasry and Jimie Dinan have agreed to work with former owner Herb Kohl to keep the Bucks in Milwaukee, pledging $250 million for the construction of a new arena. The remaining cost for construction is $250 million which the Bucks are looking to get from public financing. While the future of the Bucks on the court is quite bright, their future in Milwaukee could be in doubt if the Wisconsin legislature doesn't approve funds for construction of a new arena.
