Even as The Horrors complete final mixes for their fourth album ,secrecy reigns. The done-and-nearly-dusted record, due in the spring, remains off limits to all but an inner sanctum of band, close friends and producer Craig Silver. Although recording has taken longer than anticipated (when Q spoke to them last May,it was due in autumn 2013), bassist Rhys Webb says the band felt no external pressure. "We're very lucky. Everyone has always said,'Just make your next record'and left us to it" With no LP title confirmed yet, the only new music that' snuck out is a single track in their headline set on Glastonbury's Park Stage last summer called Elixir Spring (imagine the soundtrack to a sub-aquatic trip scene directed by '80s teen flick specialist John Hughes). Webb describes the next stage in The Horrors' evolutionary process: "Each of our records has been a natural step in our on-going journey. To me, this record feels a bit like a kaleidoscopic meteor,shower hitting Earth, Josh [Hayward, guitar] described it has sounding like your brain has been put in the Hadron Collider." Aside from the whizz and bang of wayward Higgs particles, Webb mentions the band have immersed themselves in electronic productions by Giorgio Moroder and Detroit techno records before admitting, "I just wanted the whole thing to feel like the guitar outro on Strawberry Letter 23 by [psychedelic soul man] Shuggie Otis." Each of those influences- from the burbling analogue sounds of Moroder to Otis's perfect hazy languor via the primitive electronics of the pioneers of modern dance music - suggest a recorded with psychedelia written right through it like Blackpool rock. "We're always wanted to make 'elevating music."says Webb."This record definitely does that. In fact, I played a couple of tracks to people at the weekend. We've made a real point of not playing anyone anything so far. But I cracked last weekend and played some finished stuff to a couple of friends. They said when they heard them they literally slipped out of their surroundings and fell into the music. Which is exactly what we set out to do!" The veil of secrecy finally lifts. ROBIN TURNER ----------- TITLE:TBC ----------- DUE:Spring 2014 --------- TEACKS:Jealous Sun, So Now You Know, Elixir Spring 好懶得逐字翻譯，反正我英文也沒這麼好～ 千乎萬喚，The Horrors 第終於要發新專輯了！ 是的～這次是真的，原本預定去年9月要發行的新專輯，終於完成了混音的動作！ 儘管保密到家，且只限於身邊好友與製作人Craig Silver可以得知其內容，但透過 Q雜誌的最新訪問，確認了新專輯將預定在今年春天4月發行。 儘管新專輯的完成時間比預期來的長，但RHYS 表示他們沒有什麼進度上的壓力，他也 覺得他們很幸運，因為每個人很幫忙他們，讓他們有很充分的時間與精力去完成新專輯。 其實早在去年 Glastonbury's Park Stage 演出的時候，The Horrors 已經發表了一首 新歌 Elixir Spring（想像新歌聽起來就像80年代青少年的電影之王，導演John Hughes 正在指導一場海底漫遊的電影場景，航行於色彩繽紛的海底世界之中，如此的創意十足） 不過到了去年原本預定發表新專輯的9月，The Horrors 突然宣布他們需要多一點的時間 來完成新專輯，一向力求完美的他們，將發行延至今年春天， 剛好 Elixir Spring 似 乎也很適合在春天寧聽？！ 想像萬花旗開的季節，The Horrors 的音樂聽起來就像欣賞把玩一支讓人眩目的萬花筒。 貝斯手 RHYS WEBB 形容，新專輯聽起來就像千變萬化的流星瞬間落下， 流水般向下衝 擊地球。 吉他手 JOSH HAYWARD 形容，新專輯聽起來就想腦袋裝進了一台 The Hadron Collider （偷偷覺得JOSH 又想藉機提起他的物理學士學位，他每次訪問都會愛提這點） （google 了一下 The Hadron Collider是什麼，我其實不太懂那是什麼，只知道還蠻美 的，它會呈現類似放射狀的色彩效果？！其實看起蠻像煙火的？！） RHYS 說在做這張專輯之前，團員們都很沉迷於義大利搖滾、電子音樂作曲家 Giorgio Moroder 的電子音樂，與 Detroit Techno Records 出品的音樂，而他想做 類似 Shuggie Otis 替寫 The Brothers Johnson 的歌 "Strawberry Letter 23"的作品 一般，尤其是歌曲後半段的那段吉他演奏。 （RHYS 會這麼說，因為他有一個迷幻樂的靈魂） 受到各方的影響,無論是 Giorgio Moroder 彭派合成類比音樂，到 Shuggie Otis 完美慵 懶的聲線, 透過這些電子舞曲先驅的'迷幻'薰陶之下，The Horrors 逐漸勾勒出新專輯的 雛形， 有如糖果Blackpool rock 結合了兩種顏色與雙重風味。 （註：Blackpool rock 是英國名產，作法就跟西班牙手工糖果 papabubble 一樣，由兩 種顏色或是多種顏色的糖搓揉揉捏而成，Blackpool rock candy 最常出現在英國海邊的 觀光商店販售，大多都是薄荷糖的味道，不過英國的Blackpool rock candy沒有西班牙 手 papabubble 來的複雜，他大多做的味道就與聖誕節吃的拐杖糖一樣，有類似的風 味與顏色，不過這邊用糖果來形容音樂又有迷幻的意味在） Rhys 說他一直很想做 'elevating music'（迷幻，讓人愉悅的音樂）'. 他也認為這次新 專輯有達到這個目標，原本他們達成一個共識，在新專輯發行前不打算表演任何曲目，不 過事實上，Rhys 早在前幾個禮拜打破約定，向一些熟識的朋友試聽了一些他們已經完成 的新曲，朋友聽過他們的新歌的感想是， they literally slipped out of their surroundings and fell into the music （脫離現實，所有視聽感官都融入於音樂）.這就是他們想要達到的效果! 小道消息，The Horrors 新專輯發行的日期，可能會是在4/17號，到時候來驗證一下吧！！ --
