Tuesday's announcement that Chipper Jones is added to the National League
roster means the new leader is Freese, the Cardinals' third baseman who
won the 2011 World Series MVP Award on the night of La Russa's final game as
a manager. Based on the voting update 42 hours into the 98-hour Final Vote,
Freese has a slim lead over Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper, D-backs
second baseman Aaron Hill and Braves center fielder Michael Bourn.
All four of those remaining candidates -- most notably 19-year-old Harper --
had expressed humble deference to Jones, who is in the last year of a
19-year career. What this means is that all gloves are off, campaign as you
wish, and may the best man win when the Final Vote ballot closes at 4 p.m. ET
on Thursday. The results will be announced shortly after on MLB.com.

Michael Bourn, CF, Braves: There is no longer a possible issue of splitting
the vote for Braves fans, but the question is whether they can build enough
steam for Bourn now that Jones is off the ballot. Bourn, an All-Star in 2010
with Houston, is trying to become the first Braves winner since another center
fielder won it 10 years ago: Andruw Jones.

"It's not anything that gets me down or anything like that," Bourn said of
having his fate left up to the fans on a tough ballot. "Things happen. You
have to deal with baseball in a lot of different ways. You can't get
yourself down. I've still got 80-some games to play after this. I'm fine."
