The Braves' shortstop last played in Thursday's game against the Cardinals, a game in which he collected 2 hits and played stellar defense, after he pulled his groin while playing defense. After missing the entire Astros series the Braves have decided the best course of action is to let Escobar rest and they're purchasing the contract of shortstop Brandon Hicks from AAA Gwinnett. For the season the 24 year old Hicks is hitting just .179 with a .520 OPS to with 1 homer, 6 RBI and 4 stolen bases, but he's shown life recently, hitting .265 with a .766 OPS in his last 10 games, including a pair of doubles in Sunday's game. While his bat likely isn't ready for the Majors yet, his defense certainly is, as he combines a strong throwing arm with smart, precise fielding. Omar Infante is likely to get the bulk of the playing time in Escobar's absence. The veteran has started well, hitting .333 with a .768 OPS in 44 plate appearances, and is 7 for his last 16. The Braves can make Escobar's disablment retroactive, meaning he will be eligible to return on May 15th. --
