British rocker DAMON ALBARN was stunned by OASIS' decision to accept an award
for Outstanding Contribution to Music at last month's (14FEB07) Brit Awards -
insisting the band "deserves better". THE GOOD, THE BAD + THE QUEEN frontman
was baffled when he saw LIAM and his brother NOEL GALLAGHER accept the award
in London, because he expected them to snub the "unnecessary" accolade in true
rock 'n' roll fashion.
He says, "The Brits is like the Shopping Channel for famous people. I don't
really understand why Noel and Liam did the awards, it didn't seem necessary.
"Their contribution is obvious in the bands that are in (British music
magazine) NME and they're certainly better than STING (who won the award in
2002), so why put yourself in a position when you're putting yourself into a
linage following him? "I don't understand it, because they're better than that."
