今天收到一封e-mail介紹Damon與他那群非洲的朋友所組的團--"Mali Music" 沒想到他竟然可以跟非洲人當好朋友，真是了不起。 You’ve read about it, you’ve heard it on Radio 1, Radio 2 and XFM, you may have seen it on BBC 4 or live at the Barbican last month, now you can own MALI MUSIC on CD! MALI MUSIC is a unique collaboration between Damon Albarn and some of Mali’s finest musicians including Afel Bocoum and Toumani Diabate. Hailed as THE album of the summer, MALI MUSIC was recorded in July 2000 when Damon travelled to Mali as part of Oxfam’s ‘On The Line’project (the ‘line’ focusing on people living along the Greenwich Meridian). Damon recorded over 40 hours of music with the Malian musicians whose music he loved, in their own back yard, singing and playing his chosen instrument–a battered melodica. Back in his London studios, these spontaneous recordings were honed into an accessible, happy, sunny and diverse album called MALI MUSIC, embracing reggae, house, rock, ragga and more, but mostly, the true music of Mali. The CD package includes a 40 page booklet containing a photographic record of Damon’s recordings and experiences in Mali. Damon says "My idea is to set up loads of dialogues between this music and other music that I love. I’m sick of the cultural self-assurance you get in the West. I want to get everyone into Malian music." MALI MUSIC is the first release on a brand new Honest Jons record label that Damon has formed with the long-established landmark London shop of the same name.
