In each of those regards, David Price represents a significant upgrade. Price brings 8.72 K/9 on the season to the Jays, a significant upgrade from the 6.11 they’re posting as a starting staff. His walks per nine on the season sit at just 1.90, and he has a 0.82 mark for his career. His ERA for the year comes in currently at 2.35, with a 2.98 FIP to go along with it. Even better, he’s stranding 79.9% of baserunners thus far on the year. Not that any of this should surprise us. David Price has always brought an incredibly durable arm, with a fastball that sits in the mid-90s (averaging 94.0 MPH this year) coupled with a changeup that drops things down to 85.2 MPH, which he’s thrown just over 22% of the time this year. Price going seven or eight innings in each outing, something that we’ve come to expect from him, allows the Jays to hand it directly to one of their power arms out of the bullpen, making his addition all the more important.
