Call for Papers CAS-FEST The 2nd Forum on Emerging and Selected Topics May 15th, 2011 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil http://www.casfest2011.org CAS-FEST 2011 Topic: Brain-Machine / Brain-Computer Interfaces (BMI/BCI) Brain-Machine Interfaces (BMI) and Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) are emerging topics, which cover many disciplines, from signal processing to biomedical engineering. These devices and algorithms translate physiological activity into machine language, which can be used to restore or enhance, either partially or completely, the human perceptive or sensory-motor functions. Their numerous applications and fervent reception in the medical community have turned BMI into one of the most dynamic and interesting topics in the IEEE community. The implementation of complete BMIs offers many circuits and systems design challenges, which include neural sensors, wireless transmission, harvesting energy, signal processing activities, low-power and low-voltage circuits, material sciences and biocompatibility. The research community is now especially focused on the implementation of wireless sensors and biosignal processing. The second CAS-FEST event is organized jointly by the following IEEE Societies: Circuits and Systems (CAS), Engineering, Medicine and Biology (EMB), and Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC). It welcomes contributions in current and emerging topics related to the state-of-the-art and future directions of the BMIs/BCIs. The goal of this joint event is to bring together the research community in this area from the CAS, EMB, and SMC Societies under a single roof for a fruitful coordination, promoting a cross-fertilization of ideas and state-of-the-art research activities. The workshop is a one-day event and will be held on May 15th, 2011, in conjunction with ISCAS 2011, at the Windsor Barra Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The forum is organized in a single track to intensively cover one focus area at each meeting. CAS-FEST events are high-impact, high-quality technical forum, aiming to match the quality of accepted papers with high quality of presentations. It is required that the presenter of each paper, who must be identified upon submission, should be the most experienced author of the paper. Submitted papers might be authored by students, but accepted papers must be presented by their research advisors, unless all authors are students. Authors are invited to submit a 4-page initial version of papers in IEEE 2-colomn format. An extended version of accepted CAS-FEST 2011 papers should follow submission procedure of the JETCAS. The accepted papers will be published in the December 2011 issue of the new IEEE Journal on Emerging and Selected Topics in Circuits and Systems (JETCAS). The program of the 2011 CAS-FEST workshop will consist of keynotes, as well as oral, and poster sessions of original contributions. The prospective authors are invited to submit papers on scientific and technical interest of the following topics (but not limited to): ‧ Brain-machine interface, brain-computer interface ‧ Bioinspired, biomedical circuits and systems ‧ Biomedical instrumentation and imaging technologies ‧ Biosensor devices and interfaces ‧ Biosignal and bioimage processing, and bioinformatics ‧ Body area networks/body sensor networks ‧ Electronics for brain science, and implantable electronics ‧ Functional Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation ‧ Harvesting/scavenging energy ‧ Lab-on-chip for diagnostic, and drug delivery devices ‧ Medical information, and healthcare systems ‧ Neural data recording, sorting, detection, and compression ‧ Sensor array and multichannel systems ‧ Wireless technology for medicine, biology, and life sciences Important Dates Paper submission March 1, 2011 Notification of acceptance for CAS-FEST April 15, 2011 Meeting Date May 15, 2011 Submission of revised version June 1, 2011 Notification of acceptance for JETCAS July 15, 2011 Organizing Committee General Chair: Mohamad Sawan, Polytechnique Montreal.
