A source said the Braves had a potential deal that was nixed when
Jeff Hoffman f
ailed his physical. Hoffman also reportedly failed a physical with the Orioles b
efore signing a three-year, $33 million deal with the Blue Jays.
Another source said the Braves’ deal with Hoffman would have been a five-year d
eal worth $45-48 million. The right-hander could have been given a chance to sta
rt before spending his final years of the deal as a reliever.

Hoffman and the Baltimore Orioles reached an agreement on a
three-year, $40 mill
ion contract earlier this week, sources say.
The Orioles, however, flagged Hoffman’s physical — two sources say it was his
right shoulder — and ultimately signed right-hander Andrew Kittredge to a one-y
ear, $10 million contract, sources say.
