Prior to moving to Bavaria Hitz had spent five years at VfL Wolfsburg, where he was part of a Swiss goalkeeping duo alongside compatriot Diego Benaglio. That will again be the case in Dortmund, where Hitz will be in the same squad as Roman Bürki, another shot-stopper from his homeland. BVB Sporting Director Michael Zorc said: "We're delighted that we've managed to sign a very experienced goalkeeper in Marwin Hitz, who has proven his ability at the high level of the Bundesliga over the course of many years."
