BVB sign "Sokratis"
[28.05.] Borussia Dortmund have signed Sokratis Papastathopoulos (24) from
Bundesliga side SV Werder Bremen, with the deal starting on 1 July 2013. The
Greece international (38 caps) has agreed to join BVB on a
five-year contract
until 30 June 2018.
"We are delighted that Sokratis has decided to join Borussia Dortmund. He is
a flexible player capable to play in a variety of positions in defence who we
believe has tremendous potential," said BVB sporting director Michael Zorc.
"Sokratis" joined Bremen from Italian side FC Genua in 2009. In his two
seasons with the German club, the defensive specialist made 59 appearances in
the Bundesliga (two goals) and two in the German Cup competition. "I gained a
lot from my two years with Werder but now I feel ready to make the next
step," said "Sokratis".
Both clubs have agreed to keep the fee undisclosed.

Felipe Santana moves to FC Schalke 04
[28.05.] Brazilian centre-back Felipe Santana will be leaving Borussia
Dortmund to join neighbours FC Schalke 04. The 27-year-old has signed a
contract that will tie him to the Gelsenkirchen outfit until 30 June 2016,
with the deal starting on 1 July. "It is very important to me to thank all
fans, team-mates and officials for the wonderful time I had in Dortmund,"
said Santana.
"Felipe expressed the wish to leave BVB. We would like to thank him for five
great, successful years and we wish him all the best for his future," said
BVB sporting director Michael Zorc.
"It is very important to me to thank all fans, team-mates and officials for
the wonderful time I had in Dortmund. My decision to leave the club was not
an easy one, which can be seen from the fact that I extended my contract
again last summer even though I hadn't been a regular starter. But that's
what I need to become if I want to make my dream of becoming a Brazil
international come true. That is my ultimate goal," said Santana.
Both clubs have agreed to keep the fee undisclosed.
