While both are in Spain, Rudy Fernandez and Nate McMillan get on the phone and have 'good conversation' Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan said he had a “good conversation” on Thursday with Rudy Fernandez, but he said the disgruntled guard gave him no indication of whether he will report to training camp in October. “I thought it was a good conversation,’’ McMillan said. “We talked about everything. I don’t want to go into the details, but I talked to him as a coach.’’ Fernandez on his Twitter account described the conversation as "cordial." Fernandez and McMillan are both in Madrid, Spain, where Team USA will play the Spanish National team on Sunday. McMillan is an assistant for Team USA and Fernandez is a star for Spain. Fernandez is unhappy with the way McMillan uses him, which is one of the reasons he has requested a trade from the Blazers. Frustrated that he hasn’t been moved, Fernandez on Wednesday - through agent Andy Miller - said he will not report to training camp and intends on sitting out the final two years of his contract. “This is not something we as coaches and an organization want to go through, ’’ McMillan said. “But at the same time, there are always situations where somebody wants more.’’ McMillan said he had been trying to reach Fernandez for the past week, before Fernandez made public his intentions of not reporting. McMillan said the two did not address his demands during their conversation. “I don’t know if he is going to report,’’ McMillan said. “My focus is on the team, and right now, he is still a Blazer. So until something happens, my focus will be that he will be there, so I’m preparing training camp as if he will be there.’’ Notes: While in Spain, McMillan said he intends on connecting with Spanish player Victor Claver, who was the Blazers’ first round pick in 2009. Claver last season helped Valencia reach the EuroCup Finals ... Fernandez did not play in Spain’s Aug. 17 game against Brazil, and told McMillan it was for precautionary reasons because his back was sore. Fernandez missed 19 games last season after having back surgery in December.
