Shareef Abdur-Rahim wants out of Portland. The Nets need a big
forward, someone who can replace Kenyon Martin, someone who can
score inside, someone like Shareef Abdur-Rahim. It's also crazy
it just might work. And so both the Nets and Blazers are talking,
revisiting a deal that seemed legally dead in 37 states just a
week ago. Abdur-Rahim's agent, Aaron Goodwin, is pushing the deal,
which seems to make so much whick sense both way.

The Nets and Blazers have been talking for months about a trade
that would send Abdur-Rahim, a former All-Star power forward,
to the Nets for Kerry Kittles and Aaron Williams. According to
people with knowledge of both team's thinking, Blazers general
manager John Nash has nixed that trade and wants one of the draft
picks the Nets aquired from the Nuggets in the Kenyon Martin deal
-- preferably the Clippers' first round pick -- thrown in as a
sweetener. The Nets, in turn, are saying that's too sweet. They
have countered with the Nuggets' 2006 first-round pick, but that's
not to the Blazers' taste.

The Blazers have also inquired about Jason Collins, but have been
told he won't be part of any deal. Lucious Harris's name has also
been mentioned as a possibility. Nets CEO Rod Thorn would not
comment about any specific teams yesterday, saying only the Nets
were doing everything they could to improve their roster in the
wake of trading Kenyon Martin to the Nuggets for three draft picks.
