Astros place Bagwell on 15-day disabled list Club purchases contract of Self from Round Rock HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros announced today that the club has placed first baseman Jeff Bagwell on the 15-day Disabled List with a right shoulder sprain, retroactive to May 4. To take Bagwell's spot on the 25-man roster, the club has purchased the contract of infielder Todd Self from Triple A Round Rock. The announcement was made by General Manager Tim Purpura. Bagwell, 36, has hit .250 (22x88) with three home runs and 15 RBI in 24 games this season. In 2,135 career Major League games, he has hit .297 (2311x7785) with 449 home runs, 1,525 runs batted in, and 488 doubles. Bagwell's 449 career homers ranks 28th on the all-time list, and he is the only first baseman in Major League history and one of only 10 players all-time with at least 400 home runs and 200 stolen bases. Bagwell is the franchise's career leader in home runs, total bases, runs batted in, walks, and extra-base hits. Today's announcement marks Bagwell's first trip to the Disabled List since May 13-28, 1998, when he was on the 15-day DL with a laceration on his right knee. The 26-year-old Self has hit .391 (36x92) with two home runs and 15 RBI in 28 games for Round Rock this season. His .391 average currently leads the Pacific Coast League, and in 92 at-bats this season, Self has walked 18 times and struck out 16. He has recorded at least two hits in 12 of his 28 games in 2005. Self will join the club in Miami and be in uniform for tonight's game between the Astros and Marlins at Dolphins Stadium. In 546 career minor league games from 2000-05, Self has hit .306 (585x1911) with 35 home runs and 315 RBI.
