"I have fluid that has built up in my knee and I am no longer able to train the way I want to. If I can't return to the stage of playing that I once had I really don't see any reason to continue," said Morigami. The 29-year-old will play in her last tournament at the national championships in November after competing at the ongoing Japan Women's Open in Osaka. Morigami, who turned pro in 1998, underwent surgery on her left knee last year and has been struggling to return to form ever since. She won her first and only singles title on the WTA Tour at the ECM Prague Open in May 2007.
