Hideo Nomo nearly guaranteed himself a rotation spot by yielding one run
and two hits in six innings against the Reds tonight.
He's in. Manager Lou Piniella wouldn't say it during the game, but three
straight strong outings from Nomo have made him the Rays' fifth starter.
Nomo actually hit 88 mph and 89 mph on the gun tonight, though there were
still plenty of 84s and 86s mixed in. He's shaping up as a fine $1 pick.
