It's a week away from the big final and the players are continuing their preparations in order to arrive at their European date in peak form. This Wednesday, the squad carried on with the training programme they began on Tuesday afternoon, which is designed to maintain the fitness of each individual player. Training started today without Messi (injury) and Rafa Ma'rquez, who worked out in the gym and only appeared on the training grounds for 15 minutes of jogging. The players warmed up with the usual jogging and ball control exercises. They then divided into two groups for a number of different circuit training activities prepared by fitness coaches Paco Seirul·lo and Albert Roca. These involved avoiding obstacles, controlling the ball and shooting. Frank Rijkaard then divided the players into two groups for a practice match that, unlike on Tuesday, was played on a reduced three-quarter size pitch. The red team - Valde's, Belletti, Ronaldinho, Maxi, Edmilson, Motta, Iniesta, Larsson, Puyol and Sylvinho - beat the blue team - Rube'n, Van Bommel, Oleguer, Xavi, 'Gio', Gabri, Ezquerro, Giuly, Eto'o and Deco 3-2 with goals from Iniesta, Maxi, Puyol, Deco and Van Bommel. Albert Jorquera worked separately under the instructions of goalkeeping coach Juan Carlos Unzue'. The session finished with a series of stretching exercises. With today's workout being classed as an 'Open Media Day', a large group of journalists, both Spanish and foreign, was on hand to follow every detail of the session.
