They clinched the title with a 2-0 win against Charlton Athletic on Thursday. If the Gunners beat Leeds in the FA Cup final on 1 May, it will be their third League and Cup double in six years and their 24th major trophy in 15 seasons. Manager Vic Akers said: "Winning trophies is enjoyable and I'd love to do the double. But we have to make sure we are focused for the Cup final." The win over their big London rivals means that Arsenal are now the only unbeaten side in the top flight. The scoreline was a fair reflection on play, though Charlton might have forced a draw if captain Casey Stoney's 78th minute penalty had not been saved by Emma Byrne. The Gunners had taken the lead through England striker Kelly Smith's 21st-minute goal, and they also hit the woodwork twice in the first half. Other chances went begging before Byrne kept them in front with her penalty save. The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper then had to make two further good stops before England winger Rachel Yankey scored two minutes from time to assure Arsenal of victory. Winning the League means that the Gunners will once again be England's representatives in the Uefa Women's Cup. In their four previous European campaigns they have never failed to reach the quarter-finals, but they never progressed beyond the last four. Akers said: "Europe isn't at the top of our priority list, but it would be lovely to get to the final. "We'll give it our best shot again next season, but right now we are concentrating on trying to finish the current League season unbeaten and winning the FA Cup."
