Luciano Figueroa (ARG) There was nothing we could do. It's a real shame. They scored two quick goals and the game opened up for them. They won because they played better, simple as that. It always hurts a lot to lose in a final. Juan Pablo Sorin (ARG) I thought we started well, but the two goals they scored changed the game. We tried hard but it just wasn't to be. The third goal at the start of the second half knocked the stuffing out of us. I don't think missing Hernan Crespo and Javier Saviola made the difference – we didn't lose because of individual players. We were off target up front, and we're not using tiredness as an excuse – we just lost two goals very early and it gave us too much to do. Esteban Cambiasso (ARG) I thought the game was pretty close in the first half but the two goals gave Brazil a nice cushion. We weren't tired and we didn't play defensively. We need some time to go over why we lost, and the only difference with the qualifier is that Brazil scored more goals. Javier Zanetti (ARG) The game evened up after the two goals. We weren't exhausted – Brazil just played a great game, that's all. They controlled things after they went two-up and that gave us a mountain to climb. Argentina coach Jose Pekerman A defeat like this is always painful. I thought we could do what we did to them in Buenos Aires (where Argentina won 3-1), I really did, but the reverse happened. Everything went perfectly for Brazil and they put in a powerful performance. They got ahead early on and we were always chasing the game after that. They scored twice with their first two chances, and although we were still tired from Sunday's game against Mexico, there's more to it than that. We just couldn't get back into the game after what happened at the start. It was a similar game to the one in Buenos Aires, but the roles were reversed. We managed to get plenty of possession afterwards but our finishing lacked sharpness. Fair play to Brazil - they were on fire tonight. We shouldn't be too downhearted, though. Lucio (BRA) The most important thing for us was to show what we are capable of, the whole Brazilian style of play. There wasn't any element of taking revenge on Argentina. We always want to win when we're involved in an international tournament, but we also wanted to prove that we're ready for the 2006 World Cup. That's what helped us overcome our tiredness. Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira This was a really important competition for Brazil, and we achieved everything we wanted to achieve. We tried out a lot of players in the group stage, but we kept the same team together for the last two games and won the cup. We got it together at just the right time. I think we deserved to win the competition and this was a special game for us. The team showed great spirit tonight, we stuck together, we defended well, got into space and we broke quickly. It's vital we show that spirit. The players have been together for a month now with just the one day off, and they still put in a fantastic performance.
