Who taught you the cutter? “Myself. When I was in Sacramento in 09, I was getting around my slider. I was like, I can’t do this no more. So I just have a slider grip and just threw the hell out of it and it started cutting. That’s how I got my cutter. ” Poor Tatum. You got him to swing and miss at, like six in a row. “Yeah. Once I saw him swing at the first one, I was just going to keep going with it.” It’s like magic, that pitch. “It was a good pitch up in Taiwan, too. That’s when I really started learning how to throw it harder and harder and harder. Once I started throwing it harder, that’s all I had to do – throw it right down the middle and it moved.” ********************************************* The pitch to Guerrero to get out of that jam, when you struck him out? “I threw him a sinker.” And the double play ball? “I threw him a changeup. Just trying to throw ‘em in the strike zone and keep ‘em down. If I’m pitching the ball up I know I’m going to be hurt.” ********************************************** Did you think you had this in you? “When I was over in Taiwan last year, I thought I had a chance to be back in the big leagues. Everything paid off and I’m back here, trying to pitch well. It’s been a long road. And the things I’ve been through, I have to … I mean. I’m just speechless right now.” ********************************************** You said you were thinking about retiring. When was that? “About two years ago. Went down to winter ball, didn’t get any offers. If Taiwan never came, I probably would have hung it up.” ********************************************** 我不知道他去年在台灣投的怎樣.... 但如果沒有台灣之行,他在大概就已經退休了..... 去台灣之前他開始丟掉他的slider改練cutter..... 讓後在台灣實戰使用cutter然後練出成果... 搭配他有的2-seam/changup... 讓他在台灣的時候開始覺得他有機會回來.... 我不知道他去年為什麼會離開統一... 但今年6月被天使球探Bobby DeJardin簽了回來... 雖然他的順位一直被排在chatwood/richard/bells/palmer這些人後面.... 但前面的人都或多或少有問題要處理的時候.... 他投出了成績.... 我看了他今天的投球,要站穩4,5號應該是可以.... 希望他加油.... and看來我的路人甲乙丙丁的故事可以再加一篇了.... -- My LA Angels and Biomedical Engineering Blog http://tunababy.wordpress.com --
