Scot Shields had already signed a one-year deal this winter for $3.4 million,
and now he has a three-year extension on top of that for an additional $14.6
million. Look, I know he's been the rock of your bullpen, but I wouldn't be
handing out four guaranteed years at market rate to any relief pitcher,
especially one over 30.
