Italy boss Marcello Lippi has opened the door for Totti to come out of international retirement, something the Roma captain is considering, although to his own personal timescale. “Totti is a great player and he is still very good. However, if I declare that I am finished with La Nazionale, I have to be consistent and not go there anymore,” Panucci said. “In the end I hope the best decision is taken, but if I were the player left at home because of Totti, I would go to [Lippi's house in] Viareggio and ask for an explanation.” Panucci has never had a great relationship with Lippi. In fact, he was one of the dissidents who persuaded Massimo Moratti to sack Lippi at Inter in 2000. Asked if he enjoyed anything about his time at Inter, the 36-year-old joked: “The breakfasts in Milan, then that wonderful motorway. And then you'd arrive at the gates of Inter's training ground and I already wanted to leave. “Joking aside, it was a year in which I felt very good at Inter, apart from the incidents with Lippi. I would like to once again thank Moratti because he has always been close to me, but it was an unfortunate season. “I went to Milan with a lot of enthusiasm and everyone recognised it. I have nothing against Inter. I remember having a 'discrete' season.
