Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi underwent cheekbone surgery yesterday and the 26-year-old has confessed to feeling rather anxious over the first major operation of his life. “I am a bit scared,” the Corriere dello Sport quotes De Rossi as saying, just a few hours before entering the operating room at the Gemelli Hospital. “It is my first surgery and I’m a bit tense.” The Italy international picked up the problem after being elbowed by Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira during the first half of Sunday’s Serie A clash at the San Siro. “Vieira called me soon after the encounter to apologise,” added De Rossi. “I have yet to understand whether it was an out and out elbow strike or an accidental gesture. “I felt a terrible pain and when I saw the CAT scan results I panicked: the cheekbone is a bunch of turns and humps and it looked like a rally circuit!” If his recovery process goes according to plan, De Rossi could be back in action right after the international break when Roma host Bari at the Olimpico.
