标题[问题] "during" last year

昨天上课时有小朋友问到作业中的
"I was in America last year, but I haven't been there since last year."
是否可以写在last year前面多加一个during
这样文意上虽然有差 但文法上是OK的吗??
查了字典 during後面都加上the才会接一段时间
(ex ...during the summer.
...during the last year )
如果是last year的话 是否也要改成during the last year呢?
