Tiny amount of methane (~2%) is present in the atmosphere. Because of the low gravity nature of Titan, photochemical and energetic ionic processes of nitrogen and methane lead to high abundances of hydrocarbons and nitriles that when complex enough, condense to form aerosols, resulting in a dusty and hazy atmosphere. Below ~1000 km altitude, neutral chemistry dominates; above that level ion-neutral chemistry becomes important. This work is to understand chemical processes above 1000 km and to evaluate the significance of the source of aerosols produced in this region.
