Hello! Welcome to participate in our magnetoencephalography (MEG) study. This work is conducted by the MEG Lab which is jointly supported by the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Linguistics at Academia Sinica. The MEG lab is dedicated for researches on a borad issues of cognitive neuroscience. Where: MEG Lab, Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica and Laborary of Cognitive Neruroscience (LCN), Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica Title of the study: L2 (Chinese) process --MEG & Digital Learning This study is designed to invastigate the brain responses related to adult learners of Chinese-as-a-second-language by using the MEG technic. MEG is a non-invasive technique for recording magnetic fields produced by electrical currents naturally occurring in the brain. The protocal of MEG recording do not involve any kind of injections or medications and certainly is harmless. Schedule: There are five tasks in this study, including two MEG experiments and three times of the digital learning activities. Each task will take 2 hours. The following is the schedule: Aug. 8 (Thur.)-- MEG task;4 optional time slots as 10:00--12:00, 12:00--14:00, Aug. 9 (Fri.) 10:00--12:00, 12:00--14:00 Aug. 12 (Mon.)-- Digital Learning; 2 optional time slots as 10:00--12:00, 12:00--14:00 Aug. 13 (Thu.)-- Digital Learning; 2 optional time slots as 10:00--12:00, 12:00--14:00 Aug. 14 (Wed.)-- Digital Learning; 2 optional time slots 10:00--12:00, 12:00--14:00, Aug. 15 (Thur.)-- MEG task;4 optional time slots as 10:00--11:00, 11:30--12:30, 13:00--14:00, and 14:30--15:30 Requirements: The requirements for potential participants are as follows: 1. We are looking for four foreigners who are learning Mandarin Chinese as a second language in Taiwan. 2. At this time, we would like to exclude participants whose native language is tonal language (e.g., Thai) or has Chinese characters in the written form (e.g., Japanese and Korean). 3. Participants should be right-handed and aged between 18–35 years old. 4. With a college degree or above will be recruited 5. Have no metallic or magnetic implements in your body (such as pacemaker, steel teeth, bone nails, stent, etc.) 6. Normal or corrected to normal sight condition. 7. Normal hearing condition. 8. No histroy of brain injury or psychological problems. Each participants will be offered NTD 2500 as the traffic allowance for completing our study (2 hrs/per day for 5 days).
