1977年庞克革命後，一些受到庞克diy精神以及原始声音所影响的团体开始崛起。
这些团体并未与性手枪选择相同的音乐道路，反而是踏入更具实验性质的领域，
融合多方风格例如Roxy Music、David Bowie(尤其是柏林三部曲)、迪斯可、混音、
与德国实验摇滚。於是渐成post punk，一种更具冒险性与艺术性的punk分支；其
爆裂与犀利依旧但是在音乐形式上却跳脱原始庞克，变的更为复杂与分歧。不少团
体例如Joy Division、The Cure创造了一种较为黑暗、合成导向的的音乐领域；另
外一些团体例如Orange Juice、XTC就比较纯粹地以吉他为基底，配上脱轨的歌词
以及与传统pop/rock不同的歌曲结构。
Post punk最後又演变成80年代的alternative pop/rock。

After the punk revolution of 1977, a number of bands inspired by the d.i.y.
spirit and raw sound of punk were formed. However, instead of replicating(重复
) the sound of the Sex Pistols, many of these bands forged(稳步前进) into
more experimental territory, taking cues(线索) from a range of artists and
styles, such as Roxy Music(英国艺术摇滚团), David Bowie (especially Low,
Heroes and Lodger), disco, dub(混音) and Krautrock(德国实验摇滚). The result
was Post-Punk, a more adventurous and arty form of punk, no less angry or
political but often more musically complex and diverse. Many of these groups
— like Joy Division or the Cure — created dark, synthesizer(合成)-oriented
soundscapes while others— like Orange Juice or XTC — had a lighter
guitar-based musical approach but their lyrics and music were off-kilter(不良
好) and often subverted(推翻) traditional pop/rock song structures. Post-punk
eventually developed into alternative pop/rock in the '80s.
