卫星始祖, Sputnik 1,它的外壳并不是设计来保护 IC 不被宇宙射线打坏的。
外壳的主要目的是防止卫星过热及保护卫星不要被陨石、宇宙尘打坏。

外壳的厚度才 2mm 。这个厚度，即使是用铅来计算，
宇宙射线也才衰减成原来的 87%。

更重要的一点，Sputnik 1 是 1957/10/04 发射的，
而 IC 是 1958/9/12 才由 Kilby 成功地展示其功能。
