British tenor saxophonist Gary Reader has been travelling all over the world through music for 30 years, and has enjoyed playing in many different styles in that time. With the recording of his album "Moja" (containing 7 original compositions, to be released on the "Superficially Deep Records" label on iTunes in June 2011), he decided it was now time to get back to his first love, which is Jazz. His playing seeks to combine the swinging melodic soul of Ben Webster, with the more urgent approach of Bop, and a final sprinkling of some of the screaming edge of Pharoah Sanders (who can also be a beautiful, melodic player, a fact which is sometimes overlooked). In 2010 he was in Los Angeles, recording with French Pop/Soul artist Medi on his "You Got Me Moving" album, and in 2009, he toured briefly with Charlie Winston (No.1 in French charts). Gary also occasionally appears with "The Gypsy Queens" - an acoustic band who specialise in playing at exclusive private party events attended by stars such as Sir Elton John, Robert de Niro and Gwyneth Paltrow. In addition, Gary has composed music in a variety of musical styles including an affectionate pastiche of the crooner from the 1940s and 50s (www.myspace.com/festercrabgrasse), as well as music inspired by horror movies (www.myspace.com/hellscabaret). There have been recording sessions for House music artists such as Christo, Atjazz, Ernesto and Black Ass Johnson, and before all of that, more than 20 years of playing in concert halls, hotels, bar rooms, night clubs, jazz clubs, tours, festivals and even once in a circus, in cities throughout Western Europe, as well as Toronto, New York, LA, Japan, and now Taiwan!
