I honestly don't think that's possible. Because it will take you a year in US to just get used to teh environment. Not to mention that there are at least 30% of Asians in MIT. OK, here's a little of my personal experience: I went to Cleveland, Ohio in the age of 13. Right now I'm a 5th year student in college. It takes me about three year so I can totally "think" in English. In my high school, there are about 3-4 Asians in the whole high school. (8th grade to 12th grade) I am not exactly sure whether I achieve the level of native speaker or not, because I am never satisfied with my language ability, but when I was a freshman in college, one American did mention I speak like a white guy...:P No offense on your information, but from my understanding, you need SAT higher than 1500 to get into MIT as an Asian. Because I applied there, too. So if your mother's friend's child spent most of her life in Taiwan. (I assume she finish up to high school in Taiwan), It's extremely hard to get almost perfect in SAT Verbal. So yea, can you elaborated a little more? Like she already spent some time in US before she went study abroad, etc? -- Sincerely, Albert --
