Human beings are subject to a process of ebb and flow, yin and yang, and continuous change
of one into the other, and the other into one. They are therefore closely bound up with the unity
and multiplicity of the world, which abounds with possibilities and is at once unchanging and in a
state of perpetual flux. They are subject to rhythms which mark their daily lives - and which dance
tries to put across: activity and rest, absorption and elimination, budding, flowering and death. They
are an integral part of that universal order. Dance should above all celebrate that fact.
