[email protected] With all due respect for the experts in this post room...Lemon oil is furniture polish with good protective qualities but little penetrating properties...so little is done to the wood under the surface, where most drying and splitting takes place. If you have an ebony or a rosewood finger board you are better to use mineral oil...found in any drug store (find it in the laxative section!) rub it in, once you have "cleaned" the fingerboard with 000 steelwool. There are many who disagree with the use of mineral over lemon oil but you will find it works better and is more natural an oil to work with. Apply the oil and let set for a while...15 minutes... and see it go into the wood. Buff with 0000 steelwool.... the oil helps to polish the frets, giving them a great look, also. As for cleaning strings...just take them off! Let them dry well and no big deal.
