这两篇的分析还蛮全面性的
大致的理由是因为: 早期英国的 spelling 也没有统一
刚移民到美国的英国人也是使用着没有统一的 spelling
後来几本权威性的字典先後出版
"Current British English spellings follow, for the most part, those of
Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language (1755)"
"Many of the now characteristic American English spellings were introduced,
although often not created, by Noah Webster in his An American Dictionary
of the English Language of 1828."
两国的 spelling 也就此定调
此外, 美国和英国许多发音和词汇的不同
也是导因於几百年来两地语言和文化的独立演化
同样的现象也在台海两岸之间发生
(除了简体字这种系统性的改变以外)
