A Chinese YTHT user pursuing a master's degree in the United States called site' s closure "a big shock" and said she expects the reaction to the move will extend beyond the university community. "The closure must be protested by a great number of people, including intellectuals and university students and faculty," she said. Internet analysts say Chinese authorities regularly shut down sensitive websites ahead of major political meetings such as party plenums and the National People's Congress in March. Some reopen after the meetings end. YTHT stands for "yi ta hu tu" or "all messed up" in the Chinese language.
