Holland Winger Arjen Robben Will Miss Opener Against Denmark
Holland national team coach Bert van Marwijk has declared that winger
Arjen Robben will not be used in their World Cup opener against Denmark.
The Bayern Munich star has not yet regained full fitness, and Van Marwijk
has ruled out a hasty return for the 26-year-old as he hopes to prevent
an aggravated problem.
"We have to avoid a possible injury relapse, specially since Arjen has
almost not played or trained for the past three weeks," he said.
Robben had been in doubt for the entire World Cup after picking up a
hamstring injury in a friendly match against Hungary, but he was
confirmed as fit for the competition after scans showed the problem
was less serious than initially feared.
The Netherlands will begin their World Cup campaign against Denmark on
Monday, after which they will meet Japan and Cameroon.
