Dear Pooh Fans I mentioned it sometime ago and some of you may have recently heard – I’m retiring! After 33 years since I opened Pooh Corner and after 20 since my wife June, joined me, we are finally leaving Pooh Country for pastures new. Having said that, Pooh Corner has only just been put up for sale and no offers have yet been made to buy it from us. It’s early days yet and we wanted you all to hear about from us directly. The Owl’s House self-catering apartment is heavily booked and is already receiving bookings for 2012. The weather had been sunny and dry which means Piglit’s tea garden is open with its pink parasols shading customers from the sunshine. We have recently had some long awaited rain and the flowers have burst into bloom and said thank you! Between these showers the sun has brilliantly lit up the summer colours. The air seems fresh and as we contemplate our experiences over the last 33 years we feel privileged to have lived and worked in such a wonderful part of the world. It’s no wonder that Christopher Robin had such exciting adventures and its no wonder that having told his father about them he, A.A.Milne, had such success sharing them with us. One of the things visitors tell us is how pleased they are that the Ashdown Forest and the Pooh Places seem to have remained much as they must have been all those years ago. As then, the visitor can derive great inspiration from the landscape. It was this in mind that the Walt Disney animation team visited us back in 2009. They wanted to give their new movie, "Winnie the Pooh" an authentic feel of the real Pooh Country – the landscape that had inspired A.A.Milne himself. If you have seen the movie – did you notice? Having shown the film’s two Directors and members of the studio around I hope you will think it was worth while. Disney may not get the authenticity of the characters, as we know them from A.A.Milne’s writing. They don’t really attempt to capture the characters, as we know them from the wonderful drawings of E.H.Shepard. However, they bring them to life for millions of fans world-wide and I for one really congratulate them for that. I have been a Disney fan since a child and I’m proud to say that at the end of the movie, buried in the credits right at the end, is a mention of our names. Unfortunately, our grandchildren never sit long enough to see, let alone read, the credits – but they are there anyway! Well that’s all for now - we hope you are able to visit us soon.
