By Christine Hanley, Times Staff Writer April 4, 2007 With R&B singer Bobby Brown a no-show in court, an Orange County judge today granted Whitney Houston a divorce and sole custody of their 14-year-old daughter. During the 10-minute hearing, Houston testified that she didn't need spousal or child support and that her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, couldn't rely on Brown. "He's unreliable," said Houston, dressed casually in jeans and a black hooded T-shirt. "If he says he's going to come, something he does, usually he doesn't." At the Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange, Judge Franz Miller ruled the divorce will be effective April 24, six months after Houston filed paperwork to end the marriage that began in 1992. Houston lives in Laguna Hills, according to court documents. The couple had a stormy marriage, and Brown has had frequent brushes with the law, including a 2003 domestic abuse charge in which he allegedly struck Houston in the face and threatened to beat her.
