I have never considered vying for the NBA scoring title, but it would be nice to have. With that, I would never seek an individual accomplishment that would not also be great for my team. I keep my athleticism and level of play at a high level by conditioning, getting as much rest as possible and trying to eat right. As you get older, you have to work harder to keep up and maintain your abilities. When I think about how long I have been playing in the NBA and 9 straight seasons since I experienced an early summer vacation due to an end of season injury, it feels weird. Honestly speaking, vacations are something we all look forward to and appreciate, but nothing beats playoff basketball! This season was a transitional phase for our team; starting off 4-1 then losing the next 5. We battled through the good and bad times, but most importantly we remained positive throughout the entire season. At the end of every season, there is a team meeting to recap and discuss summer plans. Due to the recent mid season roster changes, we were forced to adapt quickly. Needless to say, we are looking forward to a full training camp and preseason together. I believe we have a bright future and plenty of young talented players waiting to emerge into great teammates in this league. If you haven't heard, I underwent arthroscopic surgery on my right ankle to remove loose cartilage and a bone spur. Playing with discomfort is the norm for athletes, but I refused to allow this to take me away from the game I love. Following my surgery, doctors have me on crutches for three weeks. I am rehabbing everyday until I'm back to 100% or close to. Lol… I chose to delay the surgery until the end of the season because of my dedication to my coaches and teammates. Winning is a team effort and I am obligated to be there for my team. I feel confident that the timing of the surgery was perfect and allows me to take my time to ensure my ankle has a full recovery. Because my movement has been limited, it has been a long summer. I look forward to getting rid of these crutches and stepping back in the gym. Please know that this surgery will not stop me from participating in my 2008 summer events. I am really looking forward to all of them.
