Carter’s troublesome right ankle is acting up again. He is questionable for tonight’s game against the Pistons. Carter said he wants to play, but that he and athletic trainer Tim Walsh would sit and decide before the game. “I’m going to try and play,” Carter said. He said he had no idea how he aggravated it. He said he came to practice yesterday and it was bothering him. “Timmy thinks I might have sprained my ankle, which I don’t recall,” Carter said. “But it looks that way and feels that way. I don’t know. We’ ll see.” Carter has loose bodies in the ankle that could require post-season surgery, but it’s not a subject he wants to broach. Carter hopes rest is the answer, but it may not be. His plan for the rest of the season is to play as much as possible, no matter the Nets’ fate. “I want to finish the season, regardless,” he said. “It’s something I want to do for our team. If we’re in or out of it I still want to compete. I ’m going to do what I need to do to compare. See what happens.” There is no plan for an x-ray or MRI. As coach Lawrence Frank said, “This is something that he’s been dealing with the whole year.” Carter sprained his ankle in the Nets’ sixth game of the season when he came down on Paul Pierce’s foot. Carter has been hampered by it most of the season, but it improved after he took a cortisone shot in January. Carter said when he initially sprained it, he hurt the inside of his ankle and this is on the outside. Carter has been on a roll averaging 28.8 points in his last 10 games.
