标题[欧洲] connect flight in UK

i am currently in san diego US
i am planning to go to france and spain
if i buy my ticket separately from san to london, and from london to paris
it's in the same date but different air company
which means that i will probably have to go over the costume and get the bags
in this case... would it be a trouble if i don't have a UK visa?
i found from the post before that in UK if u r connecting
they give you 24 hr connecting time without visa
is this true?
really frustrated in the air ticket thing..
