1.Please write down the (four)Maxwell's equations(6%)and give a brief interpretation
for each one.
2.Please derive the number density n of charge carriers with charge e in conducting
strip of thickness l carrying a current I placed in magnetic field B,creating a
potential difference V across the strip(Hall effect).(15%)
3.Please give an "intuitive" explanation for the formation of the energy band
in the electronic structure of the solid state.
4.Please describe and explain the three different conduction behavior in conductor,
insulator,semiconductor by using the concept of the energy band.(9%) How is the
temperature dependence of the creativity for each type?(6%)Why?(5%)
5.Please prove that the displacement current id between two parallel plates of a
capacitor can be written as C(dV/dt),where V is the potential difference between
the plates, and C is the capacitance.(10%)
6.An uniform sphere with mass M, charge Q and radius R is spinning around its symmetry
axis with angular velocity ω. Please find the relation between its angular momentum
and magnetic moment.(10%)
7.
i)Please explain why dipole can only be stable at some space point with zero field
gradient.(10%)
ii)Use Gauss law to argue that no extremes of field can exist at free space.(10%)
iii)Try to explain why dipole can not be stabilized at free space by field(Ernshaw's theorem)(5%)
