http://0rz.tw/764d0 Q: On his impressions of Brook Lopez after Tuesday's individual workout: McHale: Brook came in here ... It's a 1-on-0 workout. We had to incorporate (Wolves broadcaster) Jim Petersen into the workout. He did some stuff, he shoots it well, he did some things ... We'll do some more stuff tomorrow. I thought he shot it a little bit better from range, he has three-point range and (can) do some other things. We asked him to do some stuff he probably hadn't done before - just some specific stuff that we wanted to see - so I'm sure tomorrow he will be a little bit better at that stuff. Q: On if Lopez's shooting range surprised him: McHale: He shot it a little better with range (than I expected). You saw him warm-up this year when you went to see him play and you saw him shoot the ball pretty easily from 15-18 feet. But in games he kind of just went on that right box and stayed there, and just shot everything over his left shoulder. But again, if it works, why change it? We were able to see him do some different things, put him in situations where he had to put the ball on the floor, change direction and stuff like that, that I wanted to see. Q: On if he gets more out of seeing players during individual workouts or pre-draft camps: McHale: None of these guys go to Orlando and play. They shoot like 25 jump shots in Orlando, run up and down twice and touch this thing really high and go home. Q: On if Lopez and Al Jefferson would complement each other well: McHale: You're looking at everybody. You're trying to find guys that complement, you're trying to find the best player available ... Right now we are in a situation where we are going to assess for that three spot like eight or nine guys pretty hard and then we are assessing a whole other level of guys in case we move out of that three spot. We've got a lot of guys we are looking at. Q: On how much pre-draft workouts help: McHale: Like I said earlier; you could watch Brook Lopez every position of every game and never see him shoot a three-pointer. So you see (draft prospects) do some stuff (in workouts) that they don't do. But I would assume (Lopez) is going to play more along the lines of how he played at Stanford, especially his first few years in the league, than he is out there shooting three-pointers. But he showed some range; he showed some stuff. You just want to see him in situations where you're saying "If you're going to play with Al Jefferson, these are situations you are going to find yourself in," put him in situations to make reads and stuff like that, just to see what he can do as a young player. As I said earlier, next year at this time, you are going to see Chris Richard, Corey Brewer, Al Jefferson - half our team is going to walk on the floor as soon as you guys leave and start working out. They are all going to be working on the things ... Whoever we draft in the draft will be here next year working on those things. It's a process. He's a 20-year-old kid. He's just a big 'ol puppy, but there are some things that he did that you like. Q: On if Lopez is a legit 7-footer: McHale: Yeah, he's a 7-foot guy, with a 7-foot 5-inch wingspan. You know, you don't play from the top of your head unless it is soccer. You usually play from the top of your hands. So yeah, I think wingspan is every bit as important, maybe way more important, than your height. You've seen those guys that are 6-11and they've got little pterodactyl arms. Those guys, they don't do too well. Q: On what memories comeback this week as the Lakers and Celtics prepare for the NBA Finals: McHale: It was so long ago, I forgot. It will be fun watching them. I think everybody is excited about it and it probably brings back a lot of memories for a lot of people, but I'm a lot more concerned with who we draft at three than who is going to win the Celtics-Lakers. Q: On if the team has more individual workouts planned: McHale: We're going to workout like 40-some guys altogether, so we have a bunch. We have a lot of them scheduled, but as you can imagine some of the top guys end up being a little harder (to get). We can get a lot of those guys at that 31st or 34th pick, yeah they are dying to come. Some of those other guys are a little harder to get. I would say we are 85-90 percent done with (planning individual workouts). That was one of the reasons this last week, the pre-draft camps, so many guys didn't go to the pre-draft camp that you were like "wow." So we are pretty well on our way. Is it exactly where we want to get? No, but hopefully, we have until those guys quit working out by the 23rd/24th. I'd be very surprised if we didn't get a chance to see everybody we want to see. Now, will they do it all on our terms? I don't know, we may be flying around the country to see them, but we'll see everybody. Q: On if any prospects have refused to come to workout with the team: Of course. This is the NBA, agents have to get paid for something. Q: On if he liked having one player in to workout opposed to a group of players: McHale: No, I don't. Last time I looked, most games are played with 10 guys. I told (Lopez), believe it or not there will be nine other guys on the court with you when you play in the NBA. He said he kind of hoped it was 1-on-0, because he does a little better there. Nah, but this is what it was. I fully anticipate having Brook back again. I want to get him back again here (with other players). Q: On the details of getting prospects in to work out: McHale: You can bring them in twice and we are leaving for Houston on Monday as a group. We have a joint workout with Houston where we will see about 30-some guys that we are very interested in. And then we just tried to get (Lopez) in because he was going back from Orlando. Brook's only going to visit three or four spots. He wanted to come in and his agent lined it up and I said "sure." You know, you might as well take advantage of all the time you have with the kid. We will get the eight or nine of 10 guys we want up here, but a lot of the guys will be down there too. Q: On how much discussion happens between now and the draft in regards to listening to trade offers for the third pick: McHale: A lot of chatter happens all the time. The draft is the highest amount of movement and deals, even though some of the deals can't be consummated until later because of league rules or free agency signings and all that stuff, but there is a lot of stuff that goes on right now. This is the most active time of the year, whether or not you have the third pick or the 30th pick. Q: On the perception that Memphis point guard Derrick Rose and Kansas State power forward Michael Beasley will be chosen with the first two selections of the NBA Draft: McHale: I tell you what, we'll see. Beasley and Rose, that's who everybody says is one-two, but we'll find out. You never know. People are going to sit around a draft room - seven-eight guys - and they are going to make a decision. So what they are going to do, I don't know, everything else is speculation - you just wait and see. --
