The Wolves also sent a protected 2006 first-round draft pick to the Clippers, who included guard Lionel Chalmers in the trade for Cassell. "It's just a move that the organization thought we wanted to make. We wanted to go in a different direction," Wolves coach Dwane Casey said. "Marko is younger, a big point guard. He has international experience. He can defend ones, twos or threes." The draft pick is protected, meaning if the Wolves don't make the playoffs and get a lottery pick, they keep the pick. If Minnesota makes the playoffs, the Clippers get the pick.
