Ten things we learned this week in the NBA

1. Item: The preseason noise out of the Twin Cities around the Western
Conference finalist Minnesota Timberwolves has been deafening. Sam Cassell
threatened to hold out of camp if he couldn't get his contract enhanced; now
it's Latrell Sprewell's turn to pop off about his deal. The fact is both are
aging, and for them to get multiyear deals well into eight figures per is a
little much.
Then there is the very real drama of Kevin Garnett's disdain for Wally
Szczerbiak. Although this is nothing new, one source says it's about to explode
as Garnett continues to rally his close teammates to freeze out Szczerbiak.
Szczerbiak doesn't hold the same disdain for Garnett as much as he just doesn't
trust him and how he has been made an outsider.
What it really means: The Cassell and Sprewell situations are not unusual and
can be managed. That's not the case with Garnett and Szczerbiak. Garnett, the
league's reigning MVP, obviously rules the T-Wolves. The past two seasons
haven't been real problems, if only because Szczerbiak has been missed about
half the games with injuries and hasn't contributed as much as he did as an
All-Star in 2002. Now he's back, demanding shots, determined to prove his value.
The T-Wolves need to resolve this problem by dealing Szczerbiak before it
erupts. The two top candidates are Portland, where he would be a perfect fit,
and New York, his hometown team. The Blazers actually have the better deal,
with Shareef Abdur-Rahim a classic low-post scorer and rebounder to complement
Garnett. The Blazers are in dire need of a great shooter like Szczerbiak, who
is also an exceptional fit for a community frustrated by the inability of the
team to come up with players they can love and trust. Abdur-Rahim is a class
act but out of position at small forward.
The Knicks' Kurt Thomas would come much cheaper and with another player or two
for contractual purposes, but would the Timberwolves want the ridiculous
contracts of Shandon Anderson or Moochie Norris? No way. The Minnesota-Portland
match just makes too much sense for something not to be on the table.
余下的都不关灰狼的事了…(幸好)所以就没有贴出来。
希望开季後能烟消云散啦~
