Wimbledon 2002 is Nalbandian's first ever senior grass-court event, only
previous grass-court experience was in two junior events -- in 1999, was
defaulted for arriving late for his Wimbledon junior semifinal match.--
He is the first Argentine to reach the Wimbledon final, and the first player
in the Open era to reach the Wimbledon final on his debut -- the only other
player to make a comparable debut was John McEnroe.
He won 1998 U.S. Open junior title, beating Roger Federer in the final,
also runner-up at 1999 French Open junior event.
He is only the second Argentine to reach any Grand Slam final in the Open
era,after Guillermo Vilas (1975 French Open, 1977 Australian, French and
U.S.Opens), and seeking to be the first Argentine to win a Grand Slam title
sinceGuillermo Vilas at 1977 U.S.Open.
David won his first career title at 2002 Estoril, beating Juan Carlos Ferrero
and Carlos Moya.
He enjoys fishing and playing soccer.
