Ponderning by the river, I saw the shepherd boy and one sheep ______ walking
along the bank suddenly fell into the river.
(a)who
(b)which
(c)X
(d)that

4F:→ dunchee : "that walking along .."
5F:→ dunchee : (c)X 的话,那麽 "walking along the bank" 是个03/25 21:48
6F:→ dunchee : reduced relative clause ,
8F:→ neikai :

14F:→ littlenee : 选that後面没be动词啊03/26 18:57
Ponderning by the river, I saw the shepherd boy and one sheep "
that were" walking
along the bank suddenly fell into the river.
但应该是省略 that were 变成 walking
可是that 不能省(关代混淆),只省略were 就变成 that walking

To the best of my knowledge, there are usually three choices in the TOEIC ques
tions. If there are only three choices, then C will be OK. If there are four c
hoices, D seems to be a better choice, because it serves not only to avoid the
confusion of relative pronouns but also to avoid the confusion involved in th
e "saw + walking" or "saw + fell" interpretation.

原PO的原句that子句有were和fell两个动词 03/31 15:26
28F:→ liveoutmyway: 3."saw + walking" or "saw + fell"
